Once upon a time far, far away in the land called Org, the most esteemed and prominent leaders of the land appeared at the top of the highest mountain and fervently announced their ‘Vision of Org’ with much passion, pomp and circumstance. There were many symbols and beautiful framed pictures hung on the walls and along the pathways, elegant videos displayed, and many words that described what was to be. It was a joyous time for many with much expectation that all would be different for those who lived and worked throughout the realm. Their leaders would make the difference from what is – to what could be. There was much dancing and singing for the future would be all that was promised. People waited for something to happen. And they waited. Time passed and they waited some more. As more time passed, the ‘Vision of Org’ faded into a mere memory. From time to time people only spoke of the Vision of Org in small whispers for it became that which was not – and they had much work to do.
As time went on, a new generation of most esteemed and prominent leaders in the realm of Org appeared at the top of the highest mountain and fervently announced their ‘Vision of Org’ with much passion, pomp and circumstance. The leaders asked all the leaders in every corner of the realm to ‘share their vision’ for they wanted all the leaders at every level to speak about all the things that would make a great difference in everyone’s lives. Many profound reasons were given to share this new vision and the reasons made much sense to everyone. Their leaders from all over the land of Org would make the difference from what is, since every leader at every level was talking about and agreed upon the same ‘vision’. All rejoiced and there was much dancing and singing. They had many formal meetings where all talked about how things would be different in their world and many plans were created. Much time passed and there became fewer meetings, and the talk and the ornate plans went by the wayside – and the ’shared vision’ eventually diminished. People carried on as usual – and they had much work to do.
As time went on, a new generation of leaders emerged in the land of Org. There was no great ‘Vision of Org’, nor ‘pomp and circumstance’ – no great words, no videos, nor framed pictures on the walls to describe what may be. The great leaders did not talk of great things but only started to ask many questions and listen. They began to offer guidance and support to what people said was needed to make things different. The valiant leaders simply said: “Make it so.”
This was not what people were use to. Many were confused and chaos ensued. Some people pleaded to be told what to do. They stated they needed to hear firm direction to give them comfort, but the leaders only said to them “Make it so.” Many did not know if they were even able to do something different for they have never done so, but the leaders still said; “Make it so.” With guidance and support, eventually some people started doing things differently and these new events created even more new events – a ripple effect of sorts. People themselves started to ask questions and some even had the courage to explore possibilities. The leaders continued to give guidance and support and continued to say; “Make it so”.
After some time, people began to experience things differently. People began to experience themselves differently. Some people even called upon others from outside the realm of Org to come together and explore with them other possibilities. Soon, more people were doing things differently and it rippled throughout the realm and beyond. Some even started telling their leaders what they needed their leaders to do – and the leaders listened, acted on such and made it so. After some time, people reflected back onto the past and realized their world was different. They called what they created “A Living, Emerging Vision” – and they had much work to do.
